    Joan Mary Moriarty was born and educated in the rural town of Waipukarau. During her teenage years she spent time in Melbourne where she discerned her vocation to Religious Life.

    Sister Emilian O’Mahony

    Honoria, daughter of Cornelius and Ellen O’Mahony, was born at Drimoleague, County Cork, Ireland and immigrated to New Zealand at the age of 30. She was a qualified Maternity Nurse prior to her arrival having received her training at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin.

    Annual Venerable Suzanne Aubert celebration day

    October is a significant month in the life of Suzanne Aubert given that she died on 1stOctober. To celebrate her life and to help promote the spirituality and good works of Suzanne Aubert, the NZ bishops have agreed to support a Suzanne Aubert Celebration day on the first Sunday of October each year.

    Sister Philomena Quillivan

    Jane was born at Manganoho, Whanganui. Her Irish father, Patrick, and her Scottish mother, Catherine, migrated with their families to New Zealand in the mid-1880s. Jane was educated at the Manganoho School gaining her Certificate of Proficiency in 1908.

    Sister Mark McLaughlan

    Cecilia Margaret was born in Darfield, Canterbury.  Her parents were Daniel and Johanna McLaughlin and she had three brothers and three sisters. Cecilia entered the Sisters of Compassion in 1936.

    Sister Liguori Dowdall

    Christina Agnes Dowdall was born in Whanganui on 9 November, 1908.  Her parents were Christopher and Gladys Dowdall. Christina was lovingly referred to in the family as Jacky.
