Marie entered the Sisters of Compassion on 25 February, 1948, and was Professed on 15 September, 1950. Following her Profession, Sister Jude worked in the various parts of the Home of Compassion, at Island Bay: the Nursery, the Children’s Section and with the elderly women.  During 1953, she began her Nursing training and passed her final examinations in 1956. Two years later Sister left Island Bay for Suva, Fiji.

On 16 May 1963, Sister Jude was elected Sister-in-Charge at Island Bay. Following this appointment Sister was transferred to Silverstream, but in 1966 she returned to Island Bay where she was in charge of St. Vincent’s Ward with the little boys. It was her work with the boys that Sister Jude will be most remembered. She took a personal interest in each one of them and truly loved them. Sister remained with them until she was diagnosed with cancer.

Sister Jude knew for two years that she had cancer, and that she would never recover her health, but she never questioned the wisdom of God’s will for her and bore her suffering most uncomplainingly. Sister died a beautiful death on 12 February. Although gradually weakening she was able to speak giving encouragement to each individual Sister who approached her.
