The group grew and expanded over time eventually becoming a national body with Conferences all over New Zealand, Sister attended a good many as a local delegate. During 1992 Sister Shirley was in charge of the Home at Island Bay when the Home hosted the celebrations for the Centenary of the Founding of The Daughters of Our Lady of Compassion. In 2016 Sister Shirley wrote “On reflection my apostolic work has two distinct outreaches as I also worked for several years in Flaxmere a very low economic suburb of Hastings. There I was involved with family help. One of the joys of my Religious life was to receive the Pro Ecclesia Pontifice award from Pope Francis in 2016. In my wisdom years I am enjoying the surprises of each day.”
