Sister Bernard was one of the novices transferred to Island Bay on 19 March, 1908. Due to serious illness, that of tuberculosis, she was not Professed at the end of her novitiate in 1909, and eventually took her vows on 4 March, 1910.

It is noted in Sister Angela’s Reminiscences that Sister Bernard died during the absence of Mother Aubert who had gone to Auckland to attend the funeral of Bishop Lenihan.

Sister Bernard died on 1 March, 1910, after a long illness patiently borne.
