Jessie Elizabeth Sexton was born at Gladstone, Wairarapa, on July 7 1881. She was the daughter of James and Mary Sexton (nee Lane).
Nancy Margaret Harrington was the daughter of Martin James Harrington, a retired farmer, and Catherine Harrington (nee Keppel). Nancy was born on 13 November, 1918, the third child in a family of six.
Mary Josephine Casey was born in Wellington on 11 October 1873. Her parents were John James and Teresa Mary Casey (nee Pagon). Mary had wanted to join the Sisters of Compassion at Jerusalem-Hiruhārama for some time, but could not get away from home.
