Barbara was born in Rotorua the daughter of James and Myrtle Martin. The family moved to the Bay of Plenty where Barbara received her education and quickly entered into the local life of the environment. Mary O’Sullivan was born at Tua Marina, Marlborough. Her parents were Charles and Mary O’Sullivan (nee O’Leary). They were a pioneering family and Mary and her brothers and sisters grew up on the family farm.
Louisa Gertrude was born in Albury, N.S.W. Her parents, Charles and Catherine, raised their eight children, five daughters and three sons, within a strong Christian atmosphere.
