Thelma Backhurst was born in Auckland, 6 May 1940. Her parents were George and Gladys Backhurst. John her brother was the only other member of the family. Sister Baptist, her father’s sister, was a Sister of Compassion.
Maria Elizabeth Quigg was born in Carterton on 4 January, 1921. Her parents were Henry and Jane Quigg (nee Diamond).
