Emily Keziah McLoughlin was born at Lismore, New South Wales, on 19 July, 1899. Before entering the Sisters of Compassion, she worked as a secretary for nearly twenty years in the office of an importing firm of musical instruments.
Sara Ellen Speight was born in Yorkshire, England, on 7 March, 1877. Her parents were Joseph and Elizabeth Speight (nee Quinn).
