Thelma Backhurst was born in Auckland, 6 May 1940. Her parents were George and Gladys Backhurst. John her brother was the only other member of the family. Sister Baptist, her father’s sister, was a Sister of Compassion.
Violet Mary Vernon was born in Camberwell, Melbourne, on 18 May 1880, and entered St. Joseph’s Home of Compassion, Buckle Street, as a postulant in 1908.
Catherine Duggan was born in Tuamarina, New Zealand, on 2 July, 1879, and was the half-sister of Sister Mary Marcelle Small. Their mother was Debora Hunter who married Daniel Duggan when her first husband died...
