Thelma Backhurst was born in Auckland, 6 May 1940. Her parents were George and Gladys Backhurst. John her brother was the only other member of the family. Sister Baptist, her father’s sister, was a Sister of Compassion.
Patricia Margaret Peace Crombie was born on 6 November, 1918, and was baptised a week later in St Mary of the Angels Church, Wellington. Patricia’s parents were Norman Joseph and Hilda Crombie (nee Hopkins).
Gloria made a promise in her heart to Our Lady that if she was blessed with her own family she would then help the Sisters in their cause...
