I entered the Sisters of Compassion on the 28 October 1961 and was professed on the 15 August 1964. I completed my nursing training and after graduating I worked in the different apostolates of the Sisters of Compassion. Two highlights of my religious life were working with Aboriginal children in Wilcannia and the orphan children in Romania. I worked in Romania during two different periods. During the 1990’s I worked in Negru Voda with children suffering from physical and mental disabilities between the ages of 2½ – 16 years. In 2013 when I returned I noticed a big difference from the first time I was there in 1990, the place was clean and bright, the children were well dressed and the food had improved. Sister Pauline Dwyer
Pauline Dwyer was born in Greymouth on 5 August 1922, the third child of Katherine Victoria (nee McGuigan) and Patrick James Dwyer. On 11 June, 1933, Pauline was confirmed by Bishop Brodie, Bishop of Christchurch, and she chose the name Imelda.
