Three years later she obtained her Midwifery Certificate. After appointments in Auckland and Wagga she was transferred to Island Bay to help with the accreditation processes for the Compassion Hospital and St Joseph’s Home of Compassion at Silverstream. In 1990 Duchesne was diagnosed with MS and since then she has courageously lived with this disease. Sister Duchesne lived at the Margaret Wilson Home, Timaru from 2003-2020. Sister is now a resident at the Nazareth Care Centre in Christchurch. One of her highlights in recent years was her Golden Jubilee in 2021. The highlight of the jubilee was the tangible joy the sisters gave to Sister Duchesne for being with her for the jubilee.
