Elizabeth Welsh was born in Invercargill on 3 February, 1885. Her parents were Michael and Margaret Welsh. She entered the Sisters of Compassion on 1 March, 1926, and on 8 September, 1926, Elizabeth began her novitiate training receiving her Religious name Sister M. Etienne. Sister M. Sister Therese Caldwell

Rosanne Agnes Caldwell, daughter of Lindsay Archibald Caldwell and Jeanne Marie [nee Dondeyne] was born on the 25th August, 1923 at Wellington. She was the second daughter in a family of six. Rosanne and her four sisters and one brother received their education at the Sacred Heart Convent in Island Bay.
