Mary Florence was born on 25 April, 1904, at Momona, Taiera. Her parents were Patrick Walsh and Mary Anne Walsh (nee Casey). While Mary was still a baby, her father moved to a farm at Edendale where she was brought up. Josephine Ellen Caulton was born in Pokeno, a small town southwest of Auckland, on 2 December, 1926, the daughter of Robert Caulton, a Returned Serviceman from the First World War. He married Annie (nee Hope) an immigrant from Paisley, Scotland, in 1921 at Pukekohe.
Sister came from Houma, the same village where our Sisters in Tonga lived. While a Sister of Compassion she cared mainly for the elderly at Island Bay.
