Eily Norah Riordan was born at Lyttleton on the 15 April, 1895, the eldest of four – two sisters and a brother. Her parents were Thomas and Mary Riordan (nee Long). Island Bay’s Own ‘Flying Nun’: It started as a joke but before she knew it, Sister Cecilia, celebrating her 80 birthday, was flying down The Parade in Island Bay on the back of her neighbour’s Harley Davidson motorbike.
