Sister Patricia entered the Sisters of Compassion in 1945 and was professed as a sister in 1948. Sister was very meticulous in everything she did. Following graduation as a nurse obtaining very high marks she completed a Post Graduate course. Sister was matron of our hospital until she suffered from ill health. In 1982 she travelled to Peru, South America to see if Father Noel Fox, would be well enough to return to New Zealand to be nursed at our hospital before he died. He died in Peru. Sister worked in Auckland, Whanganui, Sussex St, Flaxmere and Island Bay before moving to St Joseph’s Home of Compassion to be cared for by the devoted staff there.

Sister Lawrence Gough
Annie was born in Waimate on 5 May 1876, but by the age of six her parents, John Francis and Anne Gough (nee Houey), seem to have died for she was adopted by Mark Healey and was subsequently brought up by him and his wife. Whether they were related or not is not known.
