Sister Patricia entered the Sisters of Compassion in 1945 and was professed as a sister in 1948. Sister was very meticulous in everything she did. Following graduation as a nurse obtaining very high marks she completed a Post Graduate course. Sister was matron of our hospital until she suffered from ill health. In 1982 she travelled to Peru, South America to see if Father Noel Fox, would be well enough to return to New Zealand to be nursed at our hospital before he died. He died in Peru. Sister worked in Auckland, Whanganui, Sussex St, Flaxmere and Island Bay before moving to St Joseph’s Home of Compassion to be cared for by the devoted staff there.

Sister Benigna Hunter
Ilene May Hunter was born at Pahiatua on the 28 November, 1902. Her parents were George and Mary Hunter (nee Horgan). Ilene entered the Sisters of Compassion, Island Bay, on 26 March, 1932, and received her religious name, Sister Benigna at her reception. Sister was professed on 23 January, 1935...
