Following her profession as a Sister of Compassion, sister lived and worked at our Home at Island Bay before commencing her nursing training in our hospital. After graduating as a nurse she trained as a radiographer receiving very high marks in both examinations. Sister graduated as a midwife in 1978. During her years as a Sister of Compassion Sister Mary has worked at Timaru, Wagga Wagga, and Auckland before returning to Wagga Wagga in 2000 where she now lives. Sister is well known for her hospitality to all those who come to the door. Like other sisters, she is present with residents who are unwell or dying.

Sister Michael Soani
Sister Michael’s encounter with the Sisters of Compassion came in the form of a shabby little book. She was impressed with the sisters’ work with the elderly and that was the beginning of a long journey toward religious life. The Sisters of Compassion were not long in Fiji when she visited them.

Sister Pia Shanley
May Shanley was born at Waipawa on July 20, 1885. Her parents were Francil Shanley and Teresa Agnes Shanley (nee Mannings). May was a member of a pioneering Hawke's Bay family, rich in Catholic tradition.
