Eventually after much discernment she decided to leave the Sisters of Compassion. Leona has supported the Sisters in different ways over the years.

Sister Vianney Brett
Alice Brett was born in Wellington on 5 June, 1871. Her parents were George and Mary Brett (nee Maher). Alice entered the Sisters of Compassion at Buckle Street and on 28 November, 1904, received her Religious name Sister Mary Vianney.

Sister Aloysius Kerrigan
Margaret Kerrigan was born at Ashhurst, near Palmerston North, on 5 September, 1885. She entered as a Postulant on 13 October, 1907 and went to Island Bay when the Noviciate was transferred there in March, 1908. She began her Novitiate on the 17 September, 1908, and received the name of Sister Mary Aloysius. She was professed on 28 September, 1910.
