The Voice of Compassion Issue 58

  • Bringing care and companionship

    For seven years, Janet Lord has visited Compassion Housing residents in Horowhenua, providing essential healthcare access and companionship.

  • I’m happy to continue as long as I can.

    Standing at the entrance to the dining room is Father James Lyons. Every week, he comes to welcome and greet whanau as they arrive at the Compassion Soup Kitchen.

     

  • Message from Sister Margaret Anne

    Summer is emerging as the freshness of Spring fades away. I pray that you will have time to be with family and friends to enjoy the warm summer days.

     

  • Celebration Sunday

    Sunday, 6th October 2024 was set aside by the New Zealand Catholic Bishops’ Conference for all parishes and communities in Aotearoa New Zealand.

     

  • Heritage week

    Visits to the old Crèche and the Compassion Soup Kitchen were part of Wellington Heritage Week activities, allowing visitors to explore and discuss Practices of Compassion: Then and Now.

     

  • Hokianga Farewell Sister Magdalen Sheahan

    From 1993, Sister Magdalen was part of the Te Unga Waka community, living in Henderson as an adult literacy teacher.

  • 20 years of love and care

    In August, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of The Forrest Centre’s ownership of Loreto Home of Compassion.

  • 60 years of service

    Sisters of Compassion, family and friends gathered at the St Joseph’s Heritage Life Care Chapel to celebrate 60 years of Religious Profession of Sisters Margaret and Josephine.

  • Empowering elder care

    St Joan’s Trust, a registered charity, is committed to supporting organisations that assist older adults.

  • Giving back to people in need

    In her school years, Yvonne was a boarder at Erskine College. Now she enjoys her visits to the Home of Compassion.

  • Driven to Volunteer

    Lorraine, who recently retired, was driving into Wellington from her home one day when she saw a bus with a large advertisement on the back for the Compassion Soup Kitchen.
