Mary O’Sullivan was born at Tua Marina, Marlborough. Her parents were Charles and Mary O’Sullivan (nee O’Leary). They were a pioneering family and Mary and her brothers and sisters grew up on the family farm.
Asena nursed for a while before moving to Fiji. It was while she was in Fiji that she left the Sisters. She is remembered for her goodness and for her interest in social justice.
