Agnes was born in Wellington, daughter of Julian and Agnes Allen. They met whilst on route to New Zealand where they married and settled successfully into their adopted country.

Pearl Roberts was born in Clinton, South Island. Her parents were Alexander Allan and Sarah Roberts (nee Lynch).
