Mary Eileen was born on 22 October 1905 in Belfast Northern Ireland, one of thirteen or fourteen children born to Jane and Daniel McCormick and the eldest of the nine surviving children who emigrated to New Zealand arriving in Auckland on 26 May 1926 aboard the Mahana. Sarah Maud Pritchard was born in Tibooburra, New South Wales. Early in life due to family circumstances Sarah was cared for at St Anne’s Home, in Broken Hill, which was under the management of the Sisters of Mercy.
Cecilia Margaret was born in Darfield, Canterbury. Her parents were Daniel and Johanna McLaughlin and she had three brothers and three sisters. Cecilia entered the Sisters of Compassion in 1936.
