Thelma Backhurst was born in Auckland, 6 May 1940. Her parents were George and Gladys Backhurst. John her brother was the only other member of the family. Sister Baptist, her father’s sister, was a Sister of Compassion.
Three students have been honoured with the Meri Hōhepa Suzanne Aubert Tertiary Scholarship to support their studies in 2025.
