Martha Forbes was born at Ensfield, Oamaru, on 19 April, 1885. Martha entered the Sisters of Compassion on 8 December, 1907.
Emily Keziah McLoughlin was born at Lismore, New South Wales, on 19 July, 1899. Before entering the Sisters of Compassion, she worked as a secretary for nearly twenty years in the office of an importing firm of musical instruments.
