Creating a Will is one of the most significant decisions you will make in your lifetime. Whether you’re writing your first Will or updating an existing one, this essential document ensures your estate is distributed according to your wishes, providing peace of mind for your loved ones.
In addition to considering family and loved ones, we encourage you to consider including a charitable gift in your Will. Such a gift can have a lasting impact, allowing your legacy of generosity and support to continue long after you’re gone.
WHY LEAVE A GIFT TO COMPASSION IN YOUR WILL?
For over 120 years Compassion have been supporting vulnerable people in our community. By including the work of Compassion in your Will, you are ensuring our mission will be there to continue caring for future generations in need, and to nurture our Compassion values in the spirit of Meri Hōhepa Suzanne Aubert.
YOUR GIFT CAN SUPPORT US WITH…
Compassion Soup Kitchen
We support and care for the most vulnerable in our community to live with dignity by providing nutritious meals and social connection.
Compassion Housing
We offer quality housing that is comfortable and affordable to older people with limited resources and provide pastoral care and access to healthcare through the support of a visiting health professional.
Our Lady’s Home of Compassion
We work to ensure the spirit and story of Meri Hōhepa Suzanne Aubert lives on at Home of Compassion, continuing to inspire gospel love and service to those most in need in our contemporary context. We welcome visitors, pilgrims and school groups to the Heritage Centre and Chapel of Our Lady’s Home of Compassion for rest, retreats and reflection.
MY LASTING GIFT
Long time supporter of the Sisters of Compassion, Judy Mulliner, wants to keep giving for as long as she can. She says leaving a gift to Compassion in her Will is the perfect way to do this.
“I love the work of the Sisters of Compassion and the unique place it holds in the hearts of the people
of Wellington. Whether it is their work with the marginalised or the provision of a beautiful space for
retreats and the world weary in their Island Bay premises.
I cannot imagine Wellington without the Home of Compassion. I hope my bequest goes
a little way to supporting their ongoing work.”
One of the most significant ways to make a positive difference in your community is to leave a gift to Compassion in your Will. Partnering with us now through your Will means your generosity will continue to support those in need, long beyond your lifetime.
PLANNING YOUR GIFT
We would be grateful if you would choose to remember us in your Will.
Your solicitor or Trust company can create a Will for you or update your existing Will to include a gift to Compassion with correct legal wording. All you need:
Our charity name: The Mother Aubert Home of Compassion Trust Board
Charity number: CC10312
Address: 2 Rhine Street, Island Bay, Wellington 6023
If you don’t have a solicitor or professional trustee company, the New Zealand Law Society website can provide direction: www.lawsociety.org.nz
HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR GIFT
A gift of a percentage of your estate will help make a difference to the lives of vulnerable people. It will hold its value better than a gift of a fixed sum.
You can allocate your bequest for a particular project, but it must be specified. If not specified, it will be used for general purposes of The Mother Aubert Home of Compassion Trust Board.
Your solicitor or trustee can guide you with the wording required in your new Will or as a statement added as a codicil to an existing one.
MAKING A GIFT IN YOUR WILL
When considering a bequest, there are three main types of gifts you can include in your Will:
Residuary Gift: A portion / percentage of what remains in your estate after all other commitments have been fulfilled.
Specific Gift: A gift of a particular item, such as shares, property, or other assets.
Pecuniary Gift: A gift of a fixed sum of money.
Each option has its own advantages, and your solicitor or trustee can guide you in choosing the one that best suits your wishes and circumstances.
