Sister Cabrini was born in the small village of Makave near Va va ‘u, Tongan Islands. Raised in a loving Catholic family, Cabrini was deeply influenced by her strong faith and the example of her parents, Mikaele and Ana Tu’ipulotu, and her siblings. Her brothers were Emeliano and Petelo. Tino, Siale, Pakofe, and Sioape. Her sisters Fapiola, ‘Elisapeta, Velonika, and Lupi. Cabrini was educated at the only Catholic school on the island run by the Sacred Heart Sisters. She was a bright pupil and enjoyed studying. Playing the guitar and ukulele was her lifelong passion.
A key turning point in her life came when Cabrini witnessed the suffering of a seriously Ill man, prompting her to seek ways to help others in need. Inspired by the mission of the Sisters of Compassion, she entered the congregation after making a novena to her patron saint, St. Therese.
After completing her Novitiate, Sister Cabrini devoted herself to caring for the elderly in Timaru and Whanganui and for children with disabilities in Carterton. She also cared for the children at Island Bay. She found great joy in working with children, particularly those grieving or missing their families.
Sister Cabrini was known for her free-spirited nature, love of music, and generous talent. She participated in a music ministry and was cherished for her joyful, vibrant presence. She celebrated her golden jubilee in 2023 marking 50 years of service alongside Sister Mina, who had left Tonga on the same day to enter the Sisters of Compassion.
In her final years, Cabrini was beautifully cared for at Te Hopai. Her life and work were a testament to her deep connection with the suffering of Jesus Christ and her legacy will be remembered by all who were touched by her loving service. May she rest in peace.
