Matariki Stories
June 16, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Event Navigation
In every culture the mid-winter turning point when the shortest day and the longest night begin the movement towards longer days, is observed with ritual. As our days become lighter and brighter we know the harshest part of winter is still ahead of us and so too, the promise of spring.
Please join us in the Chapel at Our Lady’s Home of Compassion, Island Bay, for an afternoon of Matariki Stories: Speaking of Hope. All are welcome. A koha for attendance is appreciated.
Guest Speakers
1pm – Doug Avery
As author of The Resilient Farmer, Avery is recognised for his work in speaking about overcoming depression in rural communities and reconsidering our farming methods.
2.30pm – Glen Colquhoun
Celebrated New Zealand poet and community GP, Colquhoun will add his unique voice to this year’s Marariki celebration.
At 5.30pm please join us for evening prayer to farewell the shortest day and await the longest night. The Chapel will remain open until 6pm.
