Our Community of Sisters
Our Fiji Sisters, trained nurses and care givers provide all the necessary love, care and attention for the 22 full-time residents of our home in Suva, with each case being looked at individually regardless of race or religion. Three are doing studies for Nursing and Social Work. One is Chaplain to the Suva Public Hospital and visits the Private Hospital when called. Sister also helps give out meals to the Street People on Saturday evenings and is in touch with them. The other Sisters work in the Home where duties include Nursing care, Cooking, Laundry, and Occupational activities and Administration. The Sisters are assisted by a dedicated Staff both Trained nurses and Care-givers.
With the extension to the Home we will have 33 beds. All our Residents have multiple disabilities and require a high level of care not available in the other seven Rest Homes including 3 Government. We take patients from Hospital for Palliative care and some short term to give their Families a rest.
Our Dream is to help with further Outreach. The Fiji Govt.Ministry is focused on Families looking after their own elderly. This is not always possible because of the level of care needed or the poverty of the home with a large family . The Sisters have been able to give advice and loan used equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, commodes and even Hospital Beds. The Sisters in future could increase their visits and on a few occasions have found care-givers to go to families in need. Our Staff and ex-staff have helped here. Most Families in this situation could afford to pay a fee.
